1. We hebben Stijn van Baarle (storyrunner) leren kennen als een zeer professionele, creatieve en betrouwbare videomaker. Tijdens onze samenwerking aan de 5 filmpjes voor de viering van 50 jaar LRD wist hij complexe boodschappen helder en aantrekkelijk te vertalen naar mooie en krachtige videoproducties. Stijn kent KU Leuven van binnen en buiten en communiceert vlot en to the point. Wat ons vooral is opgevallen, is zijn combinatie van creativiteit en pragmatische aanpak. Stijn denkt actief mee vanaf conceptontwikkeling tot en met de eindmontage, communiceert duidelijk en houdt zich consequent aan gemaakte afspraken en deadlines. Daarnaast is hij flexibel en oplossingsgericht. De kwaliteit van het eindresultaat was consistent hoog, zowel inhoudelijk als technisch.

2. Hoewel ik op voorhand wat bevreesd was voor de hoeveelheid werk die het voor mij zou inhouden, viel dit allemaal zeer goed mee. Het was uiteindelijk een zeer aangename ervaring, en de opname-namiddag in het bijzonder. Ik kon me toen nog geen beeld vormen van wat het uiteindelijke resultaat zou worden, maar dat is zoveel beter geworden dan ik kon inschatten.

3.  Met trots kan ik terugblikken op, ondertussen, vijf documentaires die het debat over kritieke grondstoffen in de EU wezenlijk hebben beïnvloed (o.a. rechtstreekse impact op de Europese Verordening over Kritieke Grondstoffen (CRMA)). We wonnen samen inmiddels 15 prijzen/nominaties op internationale filmfestivals. Via de films is SIM² wereldwijd op de kaart gezet. Als kers op de taart zijn we ondertussen ook een superprofessionele podcastreeks opgestart, i.e. “RAW MATTERS”. Via deze reeks brengen we ’s werelds meest invloedrijke stemmen in het kritieke grondstoffendebat naar Leuven en beïnvloeden we het maatschappelijk debat, ook binnen de EU instellingen. 

Kortom: het parcours dat we samen hebben afgelegd is ECHT grensverleggend geweest; zonder deze samenwerking zou de internationale reputatie van ons KU Leuven Instituut absoluut niet zijn wat ze vandaag is, i.e. één van de top-5 academische instituten wereldwijd in het domein van de kritieke grondstoffen. Storyrunner slaagt er als geen ander in om complexe en geopolitiek gevoelige materie op een verfrissende, wervende, respectvolle en artistieke manier bij een breed doelpubliek te brengen. 4. Storyrunner ondersteunde onze onderzoeksgroep bij de productie van verschillende strategisch belangrijke video’s, waaronder een promotiefilm voor een leerstoel, een video in het kader van een internationale workshop rond digitale tweelingen, een video naar aanleiding van de 50e verjaardag van onze internationale conferentie rond trillingen en geluid, evenals een film ter gelegenheid van de opening van een nieuw labo. Elk van deze producties werd met dezelfde toewijding, creativiteit en professionele zorg uitgewerkt. 

Storyrunner heeft ons hierbij begeleid over het volledig traject van conceptontwikkeling en scenariovorming tot opnames en finale montage. Daarbij beschikken zij over het bijzondere talent om onderzoekers, medewerkers en sprekers – vaak zonder camera-ervaring – op hun gemak te stellen en op een natuurlijke manier voor de camera te laten functioneren. Dit resulteert in authentieke, geloofwaardige en kwalitatief hoogstaande video’s die hun communicatieve doel ruimschoots bereiken. 

De samenwerking verliep telkens vlot, betrouwbaar en in een sfeer van wederzijds vertrouwen. Deadlines werden stipt gerespecteerd en er werd flexibel ingespeeld op feedback en bijkomende vragen. Wij bevelen Storyrunner dan ook ten zeerste aan als professionele en betrokken partner voor audiovisuele producties binnen innovatieve contexten.

6. Stijn van Baarle (Storyrunner) heeft voor onze MSCA-projecten reeds meerdere promotievideo’s gerealiseerd en onderscheidt zich telkens door een uiterst professionele en complete aanpak. Van het uitwerken van een krachtdadig en helder scenario tot de finale montage neemt hij het volledige traject in handen, met oog voor detail én inhoud.  Daarnaast heeft Stijn een bijzonder talent om onderzoekers en medewerkers – vaak zonder enige acteerervaring – op hun gemak te stellen en hen op een natuurlijke manier voor de camera te laten functioneren. Dat resulteert in authentieke en overtuigende video’s. De promotievideo voor onze M-Group was een groot succes en wordt tot op vandaag intensief ingezet in diverse communicatiekanalen. De samenwerking met Storyrunner verloopt steeds vlot, creatief en betrouwbaar, en wij bevelen hen dan ook ten zeerste aan.

7. Wij hebben al twee keer samen gewerkt met Storyrunner. De eerste keer was in het kader van het MSCA European Training Network HyFiSyn, waar zij als subcontractor een 3-min video hebben gemaakt om het project uit te leggen aan leken. Deze video heeft in totaal ongeveer 10000 views opgeleverd, en dus heel wat impact gemaakt wat belangrijk is voor de Europese Commissie. Omwille van onze positieve ervaring in deze samenwerking, hebben we Storyrunner in drie nieuwe MSCA projectaanvragen dan meegevraagd als partnerorganisatie. Eén van die aanvragen is goedgekeurd twee jaar geleden, en voor dat project hebben we recent een tweede video gemaakt samen met Storyrunner. Storyrunner maakt het proces van deze video’s te maken heel gemakkelijk voor ons. Zij komen met het algemene idee achter de video, en werken dan samen met ons het script uit en zoeken gepaste locaties. Ze hebben zo veel ervaring hiermee, dat elke video opnieuw een succes is.

1. We came to know Stijn van Baarle (Storyrunner) as a highly professional, creative, and reliable video producer. During our collaboration on the five videos for the celebration of 50 years of LRD, he succeeded in translating complex messages into clear, engaging, and powerful video productions.

2. Although I was initially somewhat concerned about how much work it would require from my side, this turned out to be very manageable. In the end, it was a very pleasant experience, especially the afternoon of filming. At that time, I could not yet imagine what the final result would look like, but it turned out far better than I could have anticipated.

3. I can proudly look back on, by now, five documentaries that have significantly influenced the debate on critical raw materials in the EU (including a direct impact on the European Critical Raw Materials Act – CRMA). Together we have already won 15 awards and nominations at international film festivals. Through these films, SIM² has been firmly placed on the global map.

As the cherry on the cake, we have also launched a highly professional podcast series, “RAW MATTERS”. Through this series, we bring some of the world’s most influential voices in the debate on critical raw materials to Leuven and contribute to shaping the public discussion, including within EU institutions.

In short: the journey we have taken together has been truly groundbreaking. Without this collaboration, the international reputation of our KU Leuven Institute would certainly not be what it is today: one of the top five academic institutes worldwide in the field of critical raw materials. Storyrunner succeeds like no other in presenting complex and geopolitically sensitive topics to a broad audience in a refreshing, engaging, respectful, and artistic way. Long may it continue!

Storyrunner supported our research group in the production of several strategically important videos, including a promotional film for a research chair, a video for an international workshop on digital twins, a video marking the 50th anniversary of our international conference on vibrations and sound, and a film celebrating the opening of a new laboratory. Stijn van Baarle (Storyrunner) has already produced several promotional videos for our MSCA projects and consistently distinguishes himself through an extremely professional and comprehensive approach. From developing a strong and clear script to the final edit, he manages the entire production process with great attention to both detail and content.

In addition, Stijn has a remarkable talent for putting researchers and staff members — often without any acting experience — at ease and helping them perform naturally on camera. 7. We have already worked with Storyrunner twice. The first time was within the framework of the MSCA European Training Network HyFiSyn, where they produced a 3-minute video as a subcontractor to explain the project to laypeople. Due to our positive experience with this collaboration, we invited Storyrunner to join us as a partner organization in three new MSCA project applications. Storyrunner makes the process of creating these videos very easy for us. They come up with the general idea behind the video, then work with us to develop the script and find suitable locations. They have so much experience with this that every video is a success.

At Storyrunner, we are now expanding our focus to include video podcasts. These podcasts offer scientists a dynamic platform to share their research, reach wider audiences, and engage viewers more personally than traditional publications. Video podcasts make complex ideas more accessible, spark discussions, and highlight the human side of scientific work, making research both informative and compelling.

We have developed Dox Vox, a budget-friendly format for research videos. In this approach, researchers write their own script—with guidance from our trainer—and provide their own visual materials, such as photos, icons, and 2D animations. Storyrunner takes care of everything else. This format can also be combined with a workshop “How to Pitch Your Research” (by The Floor is Yours).
